This site is here to relay my experiences driving with Werner. I am not here to put them down, or build them up, but just relay my personal experiences. You can take the information any way you like and do with it what you want.

Yes it has been a while since I have posted, still here though

OK I have been with Werner for over a year and am still there. With the end of this year near I have made over $45,000. I do not feel this to be all that bad. However there is a down side to this as well. There have been very few weeks in this past year that I have worked less than 60 hours. When you do the math the hourly rate is not really that good. If you consider the time you are away from home and factor those hours in as well the rate is down right crappy. I have taken one week off, one week I took 4 days off, and have had two days in a row off maybe 4 times in the year.

Still Here

Believe it or not I am still here working for the screw. Things have improved with the work and pay, but I am still looking to get out of this. I now drive a day cab and at least have a a set schedule. Problem is load planners seem to think there is 28 hours in each day. Most of the time things go fairly well but once in a while they try to get two drivers using the same truck to each work 14 hour shifts. This usually does not work well as last time I checked there was still only 24 hours in a day. Not much time to write now as I have to get ready to drive to work to drive all night.

Nice Equipment

This is something that the company should change on their website. While they do have some nice trucks, they are not the norm. I have had 3 trucks since starting with the company and none of them has been what I would call nice. The first seemed to run well and had only minor body damage from being wrecked by previous drivers, but it was also filthy. When I mentioned this they told me they would give me $25 to clean it. Never did get the $25 but did not have the truck long either.

Working for free

Yes if you work here you will do many things that you are not paid for. They will tell you it is all inclusive in the package you are paid for the miles you drive. It very well may be and this is why the pay is really not much when you put it into perspective. If you track the hours you work a week and then what you are paid, unless you are real lucky you will rarely make more than $10 an hour. Of course this equals to all straight time as there is no overtime on the miles that you drive.

Just call me Stupid

I should have included this in the annoying post because of how annoying it is, but it really should have it's own topic. I do realize that truck drivers are not all rocket scientists, they are not all ignorant and stupid as well. In my short time doing this I have found that the people doing this job come from all walks of life and intelligence levels. Here at the Screw though (at least the division for which I work) they figure that you are stupid. You are treated as if you are unable to think for yourself.

The things that annoy me most

Just going to list a few things that annoy me the most working for the screw. Returning from home time to find out you will be waiting for 8 hours to get a load. This is after calling and being told yes be back at your designated time, you will have a load. This happens fairly often, and it happens to quite a few people.

A different Truck

Ok now I have been given a different truck. They told me I need to get the keys to my new truck, but it is only new to me. It is however in better shape than the one I have been driving and that is why I had to change. They are bringing in more day cabs for our account, so they must get rid of some of the sleeper trucks. Being that mine was probably the most beat up one we had ( none of the damage from me ) I think they made a wise choice to get rid of it.

Just another Day

Yes I am still here. Yes I still work for the Screw. Would I leave them if I thought I had a good option? YES!

Overall working here does do for me what I came here to do. It does make me a decent paycheck most weeks. I even do not mind driving the truck and the job I have. I do however mind the BullShit that one must put up with here to get the decent paycheck. I have never in my life worked a job that had so many STUPID things you had to do to keep your job and your employers happy.

Twist a little more please

OK, I have been taking it easy here on the posts, but I am back to being not so happy again so one more post. Yes I understand you need me to work Saturdays, Yes I understand that 200 miles should be considered a good Saturday for me. Why would I possibly want to spend a day with my family when I can spend it making $50 over the same 36 hour period that I could be home. Hell that sounds about like $1.39 an hour, and that sure beats seeing my family.
